Picking the kids up early from school to play Santa is a fun way to spend a Tuesday afternoon before Christmas! We put on our Santa hats and headed to the office for deliveries.
Every year I make a version of these boxes and give them out in place of Christmas cards. This year’s boxes were 4x4x2 bakery boxes lined with red and green tissue paper and wrapped with pretty fabric ribbon. We had a lot of fun with the contents this year. My family gathered on the day before Thanksgiving to make hard tack candy. We made 15 different batches! The flavors were anise, butterscotch, cherry, cinnamon (x2), lemon, raspberry, spearmint, peppermint (x2), wintergreen, caramel, strawberry, mango, and root beer. After everyone took what they wanted for individual households, I was left with about 15 pounds of candy!! Each of the goodie boxes contain 2 ounces of mixed hard tack candy. Next there are cookies: one chocolate chip, the other a round sugar cookie cut out and half dipped in chocolate and rimmed with nonpareils. Each box also contains one peanut butter Rice Krispy Treat (swap half of the butter for peanut butter) dusted with red and green sanding sugar. We finished each box with a couple Hershey Kisses. My sister Teresa stopped by on Saturday night to hang out and helped me pack a bunch of these up. I was planning on delivering them on Thursday, but decided to do it a couple days early since they were ready. The rest will be handed out on Sunday at church. What fun!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!
